A boat capsizes in Lake Kanjhar, killing 10 members of the same family

Ten members of the same family drowned when their boat capsized in Kenjhar Lake, a resort in Thatta.

According to police, members of a family from Mahmoodabad area of Karachi had come to Kenjhar Lake for a picnic.

The unfortunate family members were on a boat trip on the lake when the boat could not keep its balance due to strong winds and high speed and capsized.

According to rescue sources, 8 women and 2 children were killed in the accident, while 3 women who drowned have been rescued. In total, 11 women and two children were on board the boat.

Three women who were rescued alive have been shifted to Civil Hospital Mukli in critical condition.

It should be noted that very weak boats made of fiber are openly operated on Lake Keenjhar and sailors carry more passengers than they can afford in the lure of higher fares.

There is no concept of providing life jackets in these boats while the local administration remains a silent spectator.
